Chai Lai Orchid offers an incredibly enchanting experience. The atmosphere is captivating, surrounded by nature and distant enough to ensure tranquility. The staff is extremely courteous, providing guests with a warm welcome. Cottages in nature provide an oasis of silence, and the food and cocktails are amazing. Interacting with elephants is the highlight of the trip, leaving an indelible impression. Chai Lai Orchid is undoubtedly one of the brightest highlights of a journey through Thailand. Would love to come back.
We visited the lodge for a half day tour, as the full day tours were sold out. Amazing experience, just observing, feeding the elephants, and swimming in the river.
I’m super picky when it comes to choosing places that are not being harmful towards animals, and this was definitely the right choice. I was very happy to see the elephants roam freely around the premises.

6 months in advance is when we booked, & it was so worth the wait! Had the privilege of staying on the property for 2 nights. This was definitely a Glamping experience, expect bugs and cold showers. But beds were comfortable, you got two options for breakfast & they ask you what time you would like to feed the elephants in the morning when you wake up. The people running the place are lovely. Definitely have one of their drivers pick you up from the city to get to the lodge. The elephants seem happy so that makes me happy! All in all a once in a lifetime experience, and I hope to come back someday with more friends and family. Send the lodge dogs my love.
We stayed in Chai Lai Orchid for 2 nights and found it to be wonderful. The lodge was beautiful, the bed in the central room covered with a mosquito net and the shower/toilet room is clean and the bamboo shower was also lovely, with adjustable heat settings.
We went on a full day tour with Tip, who was an excellent tour guide. We first went to feed the elephants, learning about them and then medicine they might need, then went down to the river to wash them and feed them some more, it was truly marvellous. We went then went for a hike after a delicious lunch (prepared by Tip). He gave us lots of information about the local area and fauna as we walked and up through a local waterfall before going bamboo rafting before coming back to the sanctuary.
Chai Lai seems to be a very ethical sanctuary and cares for the elephants incredibly well.
I would recommend anyone to visit here, it's certainly an incredible experience.
Our family including 12 and 15 year olds had a superb experience on the 2 day adventure including Karen home stay. Our guides were knowledgeable, kind and amazing with our kids. The hike was challenging in parts but we were very well supported and able to take our time. Beautiful scenery. Our elephant experience on day 2 was unforgettable. Thank you so much ☺️
Don’t believe the bad reviews. It is not a 5star hotel for sure, but it is definitely a great experience if you want to connect with nature and the elephants, away from the big city life. The jungle elephant experience was truly fantastic. Our guide was very funny and skilled with everything. After a lot of interactions with the elephants we had a great lunch in the jungle, cooked by our tour guide. The views are impressive and the staff was very nice. We loved their food and the drinks.
Chai Lai Orchid Eco Lodge and Cafe has been the highlight of my trip in Thailand!!! 10/10 would recommend. Some negative reviews on here had me nervous and I almost canceled, but don’t mind those negative reviews- this place is totally awesome. There is nothing like it, truly. Stunning location with mountain views, great food, and friendly staff. Do take some motion sickness medication if you need as the roads are a little windy close to the lodge …keep in mind as you read some of the bad reviews that you are visiting an elephant rescue and not a luxury resort. I was very, very pleased with my accommodations. Everything was clean and bug nets and bug spray was provided. Cool outdoor shower. There are multiple physical locations where guests stay so if climbing a hill and crossing a bridge is an issue- I would not stay on riverside. Also, I would recommend good hiking shoes if you sign up for any of the hikes and definitely be prepared for some slippery muddy hills to hike up and down if any recent rain. Not complaining, just be prepared :)
I did a tour package and our guide was so kind and made us lunch in bamboo over fire and brought the water to boiling to cook the food- it was very cool. He also got us back to restaurant on property in time for happy hour / dinner with the elephants (seen in video)
